Q&A with Monica Maiello-Korzilius, Director, Change Operations

We sat down with Monica Maiello-Korzilius, our Director, Change Operations, to discuss her role at BCB Group.

Q: Describe your job role at BCB Group

Monica: I’m the go-to person for shaking things up in the Operations realm here at BCB! As the Director of Change Operations, I spend my days diving deep into processes and systems across Ops, always on the lookout for ways to make our workflows smoother. Whether it’s analysing processes, suggesting improvements, or implementing changes, I’m here to make sure we are operating at our best. Plus, I’m the one who gives the green light on exciting project initiatives and system tweaks, ensuring that every change is a step towards smoother operations and happier teams.

Q: What does a typical work day look like for you?

Monica: My workdays are never the same. I’m constantly on the move, addressing issues as they arise and diving into the depths of those problems to understand their root cause.

When everything’s sailing smoothly, you’ll find me testing new functionality that our brilliant developers have built or scoping new project initiatives.

Collaboration is at the heart of what I do, so I spend a lot of my time connecting with colleagues from various departments, seeking their insights and input to ensure that any new initiatives are thoroughly scoped and aligned with our collective goals. This cross-functional collaboration not only strengthens our projects but also fosters a sense of unity and teamwork across the organisation.

In the process of working closely with different teams, I gain a deeper understanding of how our systems interact and where there may be overlaps in responsibilities. It’s a continuous learning experience that fuels my passion for driving positive change and improving our operational efficiency.

Q: Why did you choose to go into this industry?

Monica: After having explored money transfer and traditional banking sectors, I ventured into the fintech industry because I was drawn by the dynamic landscape and endless opportunities for innovation. The fintech realm is exhilarating and ever-evolving, offering constant challenges that keep me engaged and motivated. I have always worked in Operations and I love navigating its complexities and driving positive change. It’s a field where every day brings new insights and learning experiences, fuelling my passion for continuous improvement and contributing to the advancement of the industry.

Q: What is your favourite thing about working at BCB Group?

Monica:

My favourite aspect of working at BCB Group is the vibrant energy, enthusiasm and positivity that flows through the team. Never have I encountered such a group of like-minded individuals, all driven by the same eagerness to grow, succeed, and leave a lasting impression. 

What truly stands out is the friendliness and approachability of my colleagues. Whether I need assistance, want to bounce around ideas, or simply have a conversation, everyone is accessible and willing to help. This welcoming environment fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and collaboration, making each workday enjoyable and rewarding.

Q: If you had to describe BCB Group in one word, what would it be?

Monica: If I had to describe BCB Group in one word, I would choose “dynamic”. In a very rapidly changing and evolving industry landscape, BCB gracefully embraces curveballs, turning challenges into opportunities and propelling us forward.

Q: What are your interests outside of BCB Group?

Monica: I love to travel and I looooove food. If I had unlimited time and resources, I would no doubt spend it on the road with my little family, exploring new countries, new cultures and tasting cuisines from all over the world. There’s something about enjoying a mouthwatering meal against a breathtaking backdrop, surrounded by the people I love, that fills me with boundless energy and happiness.

I have two wonderful children who keep me on my toes and push me to be the best version of myself I could be. Amidst the chaos of everyday life, seeing the excitement in their eyes as we discover new things together is truly priceless. It’s these precious moments of discovery and connection that truly make life worthwhile.
