A policy presence in Paris, interview with Dr Lisa Cameron
During this year’s Paris Blockchain Week, BCB Group sat down with Dr Lisa Cameron, a former UK Member of Parliament and founder and chair of the UK-US Crypto Alliance, to discuss the event’s most important takeaways.
Cameron, who served as an MP for nine years and chaired the UK Parliament’s cryptocurrency group, said this year’s event reflected a deeper level of visible institutional and policymaker engagement.
Beyond the renowned VIP dinner at the Château de Versailles, Paris Blockchain Week 2026 saw a clear increase in the number of traditional finance, policymakers and industry leaders present.
As the theme of TradFi-DeFi convergence continues to gain momentum across major industry events, Cameron said the composition of the room was reflective of the sector’s ongoing progress.
“There is a greater presence of traditional finance here this year, which suggests the industry is becoming increasingly integrated into European financial systems,” said Cameron.
Through a regulatory lens, Cameron also spoke about the need for greater clarity and alignment to support global adoption.
“I’m doing some work alongside the US Crypto Task Force, particularly around bringing MPs into those conversations. I also think MiCA will likely start to be updated in some ways to better cater for stablecoins.
“I’m also hoping the UK can bring guidance to the fore, so we can integrate more effectively and supercharge the industry in the UK,” she said.
For Cameron, the growth in policymaker attendance marks a notable shift in how the digital asset sector is being received at institutional level.
“When I first started attending these events, I was often one of the only policymakers in the room,” she said.
“Now, many members of parliament are attending, which shows the industry is firmly on the map and continuing to go from strength to strength. The future is definitely digital.”
Looking back to the UK, Cameron also highlighted BCB Group’s role in representing British digital asset expertise on the international stage.
“It’s amazing to see BCB Group here showcasing the best of British industry. This is a wonderful organisation, truly international, and it is showcasing best practice to the world,” she said.
